Join us the Sunday before 9/11 National Day of Service for a project that helps local Milwaukee veterans at the Milwaukee VA Fisher House. This event is co-sponsored by Human Equality Love Project (our partners for MLK National Day of Service and Gardening for Good).

*NOTE: Although this event is in honor of 9/11 National Day of Service, we will not be explicitly addressing the details of 9/11. This is in consideration of younger children attending the event and we believe it is best left up to parents to decide when their child is ready to learn about that day.*

PURPOSE: We seek to introduce children to veterans' contributions and current needs and provide a concrete way of giving back. Children and families will volunteer over a weekend as part of a nationwide service initiative.

IMPACT: Children will have a greater understanding of veterans and will see that they possess talents to give back. Veterans will receive basic toiletries through the Care Kits and hopefully receive the message that there are people (kids!) out there who are grateful for their service and care about their well-being.

ACTIVITIES: We will collect and bag supplies for the Veteran Care Kits, we will learn information from a vet, and hear a short story.  Please note that we are asking for specific donations for the Care Kits, just like we did for MLK Day. When you register you will be given the option of saying how you will contribute (if you can).

WHEN&WHERE: September 9, 1:30 pm -2:30 pm at the Shorewood Village Center (the basement of the Shorewood Public Library)

REGISTRATION: Available Here

CANCELLATIONS: Please email [email protected] if plans change and you cannot make it

PARTICIPANT CAP: 25 families

AGE: All ages welcome

COST: Free, for those who are able, we are collecting supplies to fill the care kits (on registration you will indicate if you are willing to buy supplies)
